も and モ

Pronunciation

“MO” sound in "Motor".

も Memorization Story

The hiragana も looks like a fishhook. But not just any fishhook. This one has MOtorized oars that help it move around in the water like a living insect.

モ Memorization Story

The katakana モ is just the new MOdel… sorry, Model… that has the oars up TOP.

Writing

The hook in the first stroke of the hiragana も should curve back in to the LEFT a little bit, moving into the 2nd stroke. That 2nd stroke should be a bit longer than the 3rd, or about the same length.

For the katakana モ, the opposite is true. The hook is FLAT on the bottom, almost like an L, and the 1st horizontal stroke is SHORTER than the 2nd.
