な and ナ
Pronunciation
“NA” sound in "Nod".
な Memorization Story
The hiragana な looks to me like a FLAIL with a KNI-FE on the end instead of a spiky ball… but gone HORRIBLY wrong, because the handle of the flail was made from a noodle, that gets all looped up and breaks. That sends the KNIFE flying into the side of a tree. At which the flail wielder shouts “NICE”, giving us a nice speech bubble for that dot on the right.

It might be a good idea to remember that the loopy stroke here is going to be represented by a noodle in most of our stories for loopy hiragana from here on out.
Make sure to try and visualize the sequence of events here clearly, so you can get the hiragana character from the story.
ナ Memorization Story
The katakana is just that sword flying off into the distance…
Writing
The hiragana な has a LOT of space in it, and it can be difficult to figure out where to put everything. Don’t be afraid to leave a decent amount of space between strokes. Starting the 4th stroke directly below the START of the 3rd stroke, and around the MIDDLE of the part on the LEFT can help you with balance.
